New Men’s Sheds will be built in 15 communities across Victoria as the Andrews Labor Government announces the successful grant recipients of its $750,000 Men’s Shed grants round.

Minister for Families and Children Jenny Mikakos announced the successful grant recipients today at the official opening of the Melbourne Men’s Shed at Federation Square, which was funded in a previous grants round.

The Labor Government has awarded grants of up to $60,000 to build 15 new men’s sheds in communities with a high need.

The funds can be used to construct a new Men’s Shed, redevelop an existing building into a Men’s Shed or co-locate a Men’s Shed in a multifunction community facility or hub.

Each local project has been undertaken with extensive community consultation, and has a plan to grow the involvement of local residents to build strong partnerships with other community organisations like councils and neighbourhood houses.

Men’s Sheds enhance the health and wellbeing of both individuals and Victorian communities as a whole by reducing social isolation and promoting social inclusion.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Families and Children Jenny Mikakos:

“The Andrews Labor Government is proud to support Men’s Sheds -
they play an important role in building inclusive and vibrant Victorian communities.”

“They are a safe and friendly space where people can learn
new skills, catch up with mates and give back to the community.”

“Men’s sheds enable people to get together, work on valuable projects and forge s
trong ties with others in the community – they are great for the health and
wellbeing of men in our communities.
